Living Heart Centered

For those of you who know my story, you know I came to yoga at a very stressful time in my life. Yoga for me wasn't the power of a Vinyasa Flow, but rather it was in the stillness and silence of the Savasana at the end of class. This was when my body could fully relax and shift from the very dominant fight and flight of my life, into the rest and digest, which was lacking at the time. My nervous system was shifting, and it was just what my body was craving/needing.

I am also an avid podcast listener. If I was to be stranded on a desert island, I would want to make sure I had my Spotify account with me. Every now and again I stumble across a podcast that is worth sharing, and this is one of them. This Mel Robbins Podcast #1 Neurosurgoen: How to Manifest Anything You Want and Unlock the Unlimited Power of Your Mind. is one of those podcasts that I believe we should all listen to.

The episode is very long, and, as described talks about the science behind manifesting, but the value in this episode that I want to share with you happens in the first half an hour. If you want to hear more on the science of manifesting, I encourage you to listen to the entire podcast.

In the first half hour of the podcast, Dr. Doty begins to describe the nervous system, talking about the parasympathetic and the sympathetic nervous system (otherwise referred to as the rest and digest or fight and flight response) and how living a heart centered life keeps us in the rest and digest, leading to a healthier and happier life.

Dr. Jim Doty recently passed away, and Mel Robbins rereleased this episode on her podcast in his memory. Dr. Doty had an incredible life, he was a clinical professor of neurosurgery at Stanford University and founder and director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, an affiliate of the Stanford Neurosciences Institute. He was the author of several self help books.
